Abstract

This research is motivated by students who still have low environmental awareness, low critical thinking skills, conventional teaching methods, limitations of learning modules, and low student engagement. This research is conducted with the aim to 1) Develop an IPAS learning module for fourth grade on the theme of loving the environment through a constructivist approach and a problem-based learning model as a learning medium. 2) Describe the feasibility of the developed module. 3) Analyze the effectiveness of the implementation of the module in fostering environmental awareness and critical thinking skills among students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Panaan Palengaan Pamekasan. This research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE development procedure: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation. 1) Analysis, conducting analysis of students' needs, curriculum analysis, and analysis of students' characteristics. 2) Design, gathering materials and images, creating drafts, and designing the module. 3) Development, the activities of developing the module which is then tested by material experts, media experts, and language experts. 4) Implementation, applying the IPAS learning module to 15 fourth-grade MI Baitul Hikmah students, from March 10, 2025, to April 15, 2025. 5) Evaluation, the results of all stages from analysis to implementation. The results of this study show that: 1) the IPAS learning module on the theme of loving the environment for 4th grade through a constructivist approach and problem-based learning model in printed form consists of a module description, learning outcomes, an introduction to the book content, dimensions of graduate profiles, learning activities, competency tests, reflections, and a glossary. 2) the IPAS learning module is considered feasible to be implemented according to the statements provided by material experts, media experts, and language experts. 3) the IPAS learning module is stated to be effective in fostering environmental awareness and critical thinking among students based on the pre-test and post-test results, which show a significant improvement in students' understanding. The average environmental awareness score increased from 48.67 to 86.00, while the critical thinking score increased from 43.33 to 84.67. The N-Gain index of 0.72 for environmental awareness and 0.74 for critical thinking indicates that the effectiveness of the module falls into the high category, thus this module successfully enhanced the students' understanding with fairly optimal results.
