Abstract
This study examines the contribution of Qur'anic expressions in character formation through the narrative of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him). The importance of this scholarly inquiry resides in its endeavor to investigate the linguistic and rhetorical capabilities of the Qur'an in the realms of education and character formation—an element that has not been comprehensively examined in prior research endeavors. The research addresses the following questions: (2) How are Qur'anic expressions utilized to construct character in the story of Prophet Mūsā a.s.? (1) How can negative values in the narrative be transformed into positive factors in character formation? (1) Why do the Qur'anic expressions in the story of Prophet Mūsā a.s. differ across various surahs? This study employs a balāghah-based analytical approach using the theory of naẓm developed by ʿAbd al-Qāhir al-Jurjānī to analyze rhetorical structure and linguistic style within the narrative. Furthermore, a psychoanalytic framework is utilized to examine the internal dynamics of the characters depic in the narrative The findings reveal that: (2) Qur'anic expressions possess significant potential in character formation through their narrative and rhetorical power; (1) Negative elements in the story of Prophet Mūsā a.s., such as fear, anger, and self-doubt, are transformed into strengths such as courage, leadership, and spiritual sensitivity; (1) The variation in Qur'anic expressions regarding the same story across different surahs does not represent redundant repetition, but rather editorial adaptation tailored to the narrative context and emotional state of the character presented. Thus, this research contributes to a broader understanding of the function of Qur'anic expressions as instruments of character formation that are contextual, rhetorical, and psychological in nature.
