Abstract

Collection development is one of the main activities in library management, which heavily relies on librarians' competencies in planning, implementing, and evaluating collections according to users' needs. This study aims to determine the collection development competencies possessed by librarians at the LPP Yogyakarta Polytechnic Library. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive methodology. The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and documentation. The validity of the data in this study was tested in four ways: credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. The data analysis techniques used were data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion.The results of the study indicate that librarians have implemented most of the elements in the eight SKKNI competency units, namely: (1) Formulating Collection Development Policies, (2) Evaluating Library Collection Development Policies, (3) Conducting Information Needs Analysis for Library Users, (4) Selecting Library Materials, (5) Procuring Library Materials, (6) Planning Library Collection Development Evaluation, (7) Conducting Library Collection Development Evaluation, (8) Conducting Library Collection Stock Opname. In terms of the application of Evans' theory, it was found that the aspects of user analysis and selection policy have been applied functionally, although not yet fully documented. In general, librarians have demonstrated good competence in collection development operations, but there is a need for strengthening in the areas of strategic planning and data-based evaluation to ensure the relevance and sustainability of the library collection.
