Abstract

The African grey parrot (Psittacus erithacus) is the largest species of hook-billed parrot in the world. It is highly favored by many people due to its beautiful plumage and its ability to mimic human speech. This species is currently classified as endangered. The decline in its population is caused by habitat destruction, illegal trade, and poaching. Therefore, ex-situ conservation efforts are necessary. The research results show that the observed behaviors in male and female parrots include grooming, feeding, drinking, resting, and interaction. Vocalization was not observed.aims to examine the daily behavior, frequency, relative frequency, and duration of behaviors exhibited by the African grey parrot (Psittacus erithacus) in display and in the cage. The research was conducted using the Focal Animal Sampling method starting from 09.00-16.00 WIB. The object that were observed was 4 individuals of the African grey parrot (2 male and 2 adult female). Relative frequency behavior of the male and adult female parrot in the display area from the highest to lowest are intereaction behavior (50 % and 59 %), self-care (41 % and 31 %), eat (4 % and 5 %), drinking (2 % and 3 %), rest (1 % and 2 %) vocalization (2 %). Relative frequency behavior of the male and adult female parrots in the accommodation enclosure from the highest to lowest are self-care (46 % and 52 %), eat (29 % and 26 %), rest (9 % and 12 %), drinking (8 % and 10 %), vocalization (8 %), interaction (0 %). The mature male and female parrots in the display area have a lot of interaction activities (40-60 minutes) while the mature male and female parrots in the accommodation enclosure have more rest activity (45-49 minutes). Adult male and female parrots in the display and accommodation cages showed that the frequency of behavior in the display was dominated by grooming behavior. The relative frequency was dominated by interaction behavior, while the duration of adult male and female parrots in the accommodation cage was dominated by grooming behavior. The duration of adult male and female parrots in the display cage was dominated by interaction behavior, while the duration of adult male and female parrots in the accommodation cage was dominated by resting behavior.
