Abstract

TiO2/Nanoselulosa has been synthesized as a photocatalyst for the photodegradation of rhodamine b dye. This study aims to examine the effect of the sol-gel method on the molecular structure, band gap energy (Eg), and crystal phase of TiO2/Nanocellulose nanocomposites, studying the photocatalytic activity of TiO2/Nanocellulose nanocomposites on the photodegradation of rhodamine b dye under various reaction conditions and catalyst mass. And analyzing the kinetics of rhodamine b photodegradation to determine the order of reaction rate under various reaction conditions and catalyst mass of TiO2/Nanocellulose on reaction rate. Synthesized TiO2/Nanocellulose is made through the sol-gel method using titanium (IV)-n-butoxide (Ti(OBut)4) precursor and nanocellulose from salak tree stems as carriers in acetic acid solvent (CH3COOH). Conditions for synthesis TiO2/Nanocellulose were carried out at room temperature with stirring for 24 hours without heating and left for 5 days. The results of TiO2/Nanocellulose crystal were characterized using XRD, FTIR, and DRS UV-Vis. The photocatalytic activity was tested under reaction conditions with and without UV irradiation and variations in catalyst mass of 0.05; 0.1; 0.2 grams and analyzed using a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. The results of the study showed that TiO2/Nanocellulose crystal has formed a diffraction pattern according to JCPDS standards 21-1272 which shows the tetragonal anatase crystal phase with a crystal size of 3.41-9.21 nm and a crystallinity of 46.32%. The typical absorption in the O-H stretch at 3402 cm-1 indicates the presence of -OH groups from nanocellulose and the O-H bend at 1636 cm-1 which indicates the existence of hydrogen bonds between Ti and nanocellulose and Ti-O-Ti bonds at 455.2 and 501.49 cm-1. The large band gap energy of TiO2/Nanocellulose resulting was 3.15 eV. The results of the catalyst activity test showed that the rhodamine b photodegradation reaction followed a reaction order of 1 with an R2 of 0.9944. The results of the influence of catalyst mass proved that the more catalyst added, the higher the reaction rate constant.
