Abstract

This research aims to determine the policy, the process of preserving printed library materials with fumigation, and the problems during the implementation of fumigation. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The subjects in this research were technicians, service managers, the head of the Archives and Library Service of Karanganyar Regency, the head of the library division, and librarians of the Archives and Library Service of Karanganyar Regency. The objects of this research are the fumigation policy, the process of preserving printed library materials with fumigation, and the problems during the implementation of fumigation. The data collection method in this research used observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique through the stages of data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions or verification. Validity testing uses 3 tests, namely: credibility test (using the triangulation technique and member check method), transferability test, and dependability test. The results of the research indicate that the fumigation policy at the Archives and Library Service of Karanganyar Regency is stated in the procurement of goods/services letter in Number: 027/24.01/PPK, namely regarding the procurement of cleaning services, pest control and fumigation. The process of preserving printed library materials with fumigation goes through the stages of preparing fumigation tools and materials, determining the time of fumigation, fumigation preparation, fumigation application, initial and final monitoring, aeration and cleaning the fumigation room from fumigant deposit ash. Meanwhile, the problems to fumigation include limited budget to carry out fumigation, the absence of chemical experts, and the difficulty of creating an airtight room on the bookshelf caused by the tilted position of the shelves. Some suggestions from the results of the research include the creation of procedural policies regarding the implementation of fumigation, the Archives and Library Service of Karanganyar Regency should carry out fumigation in a special room in order to increase space and budget efficiency, and the arrangement of the position of the bookshelf which should be straightened and spaced so that it is not too close to the wall.
