Abstract

This study aims to compare the struggles of Dre Parker and Deni Ruso in gaining masculinity from their father figures through their teachers. This study discusses the journey of Dre Parker and Deni Ruso's masculinity who try to find their masculine identity through the guidance of teachers as substitute father figures. With the main foundation of masculinity theory, this study uses a qualitative descriptive approach and narrative analysis to understand the dynamics of their stories. Both characters face social pressure in a new environment, where Dre moves from America to China and Deni moves from Jakarta to Makassar. Differences in social support and religious beliefs show that although there are similarities in their struggles, the final results are different. Each character's teacher has an approach that reflects emotional intelligence in guiding them towards masculine maturity. The results of the study show that the guidance received by Dre and Deni from their teachers influenced the success of their masculinity process. The transition period experienced by Dre and Deni is marked by a change from the initial phase to a new phase, from their previous life to a new life. This study shows the transition between Dre and Deni in finding their masculinity. It can be concluded that, with different circumstances and environments, masculinity can still be formed well.
