Abstract

The background of this research is based on the idea of the boarding school's caretaker that educational institutions based on Islamic boarding schools are still very lacking, and many elderly people have a strong desire to learn about religion. They are aware that in the past, when they were children or teenagers, they did not have many opportunities to study religion due to their preoccupation with worldly pursuits and various other reasons. Therefore, in their old age, they deeply yearn for religious understanding and teachings. The need for religious facilities based on Islamic boarding schools is the reason behind the reopening of the Ahsanu 'Amala Ngemplak Sleman Elderly Islamic Boarding School. This study uses a qualitative method. The type of research used is field research, which is conducted directly on-site at the Ahsanu ‘Amala Ngemplak Sleman Elderly Islamic Boarding School. Data was collected through interviews, observations, and documentation of the Ahsanu ‘Amala Elderly Islamic Boarding School, including caregivers, administrators, teachers, and students. This study uses Philip Lesly's communication planning model. This model has two important components, namely the organization that drives the activities and the public who are the targets of the activities, as well as Seligman's theory of happiness (PERMA). This study aims to analyze the communication strategies employed by the administrators of the Ahsanu 'Amala Elderly Islamic Boarding School in religious education for their students and the meaning of happiness for the students at the Ahsanu 'Amala Elderly Islamic Boarding School. The results of the study indicate that the administrators of the Ahsanu Amala Elderly Islamic Boarding School apply communication strategies in their religious education activities. Meanwhile, for the students, deepening their religious knowledge brings inner peace and happiness.
