Abstract

Premarital sex among adolescents is a growing social phenomenon in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. According to the DIY Family Health Office, the highest number of unplanned pregnancies in 2023 to 2024 was in Bantul, and in 2023, Bangunjiwo Village had the highest number of unplanned pregnancies in Bantul with 46 cases. This study aims to analyse the interpersonal communication between mothers and children in preventing premarital sex among teenagers aged 15-19 years in Bangunjiwo Village, Kasihan District, Bantul Regency, DIY Province. The method used is qualitative. Data were collected through interviews with five parents and five teenagers, as well as through direct observation and documentation. The results of the study show that communication between parents and adolescents occurs naturally in various daily activities and also serves as a medium for instilling values such as religion, modesty, responsibility, and shaping adolescents' perceptions to protect themselves from premarital sex. This study concluded that communication between parents and children can foster awareness, openness, and mutual trust, enabling children to apply their parents' messages in their social lives.
