Abstract
This study examines the process of identity negotiation among Muslimah adolescentss girl involved in nightlife activities in Yogyakarta. The research focuses on how they negotiate their personal and social identities amidst the clash between religious values and an urban lifestyle. The main problem explored is how Muslimah adolescentss girl manage a double life: being a religious individual in family and campus environments, while also being part of a modern community in nightlife entertainment venues. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, data was collected through non-participant observation and in-depth interviews. Theoretically, this research is based on Stella Ting-Toomey's Face Negotiation Theory, which is combined with the concepts of social identity and cognitive dissonance. The findings reveal two main outcomes. First, in the context of personal identity, the female adolescentss employ a face-saving strategy by limiting their behavior (avoiding excessive alcohol consumption), maintaining a relatively modest appearance, and separating their religious identity from their nightlife identity. Second, in the context of social identity, they use a face-giving strategy, which includes selective participation in group activities, managing their image to appear modern, and providing mutual support within their circle of friends. These findings indicate that the identity negotiation of young Muslim women in nightclubs forms a complex pattern of a double life, yet also gives rise to a more resilient and flexible identity.
