Abstract

This study examines social capital within the Nyadar Tradition of Pinggir Papas Village, Kalianget Subdistrict, Sumenep Regency. The Nyadar Tradition represents an expression of gratitude for salt harvests as well as a form of respect for ancestors, which has been preserved across generations. The research focuses on understanding how social capital is formed, developed, and contributes to the social and economic life of the local community. This research employs a qualitative method through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using Robert D. Putnam’s social capital theory, which emphasizes three main aspects: social networks, trust, and norms. Data validity was maintained through source and method triangulation. The findings reveal that the Nyadar Tradition strengthens social networks among villagers, fosters mutual trust, and maintains adherence to customary norms. Beyond reinforcing social cohesion, the tradition also contributes to the local economy through seasonal trade, transportation services, and the involvement of small businesses. Thus, the Nyadar Tradition functions not only as a sacred ritual but also as a source of social capital that enhances solidarity and community welfare.
