Abstract
Verbal aggression between K-Pop fans on social media X often triggers fanwars. These phenomena usually lead to character attacks, competency attacks, insults, abusive words and even cyberbullying. In this regard, it will certainly reduce the comfort of social media and affect the mental condition of the person who is the target of aggression. This correlational quantitative study aimed to test whether the relationship between fanaticism and verbal aggression was moderated by self-control. The subjects of this study were 244 K-Pop fans who actively used X social media from the age range of 10-40 years, which were collected through a non-probability technique using the purposive sampling method. The measuring tools used were the verbal aggression scale, the fanaticism scale and the self-control scale. The data analysis technique used was multiple regression analysis with an MRA (Moderated Regression Analysis) interaction test. Based on the results of the study, it is known that the effect of interaction between fanaticism and self-control on verbal aggression has a value of p (0.101) > α (0.05) with a value of B (regression coefficient) = -25.85. This means that self-control does not play a moderator variable in the relationship between fanaticism and verbal aggression of K-Pop fans on social media X. The results of this study indicate that self-control is not always a moderator in the relationship between fanaticism and verbal aggression of K-Pop fans. However, self-control and verbal aggression have a negative correlation, so improving the ability to manage emotions and self-control is important for K-Pop fans to do so that the phenomenon of verbal aggression on social media can be suppressed.
