Abstract
Beluntas (Pluchea indica (L.) Less.) is one of the plants used by the people of Gunungkidul as a food and medicine. Beluntas leaves contain flavonoids that can increase milk production. This study aims to determine the effect of beluntas leaf juice on the histomorphometry of mammary glands in lactating white rats based on the number of active alveoli, alveolar diameter, alveolar lumen diameter, alveolar epithelial cell height, and lactiferous duct diameter. This study used a Completely Randomized Design with 15 lactating female white rats and 3 pups each. The treatments consisted of 5 groups, namely negative control (2 ml of distilled water), positive control (Domperidone at a dose of 2,5 mg/kgBW), P1 (20% beluntas leaf juice stock), P2 (40% beluntas leaf juice stock), and P3 (80% beluntas leaf juice stock). The treatments were administered via gastric tube at a dose of 2 ml/day for 15 days. The results showed that the treatment given for 15 days increased the number of active alveoli by 174, the alveolar diameter by 89 μm, the alveolar lumen diameter by 79,9 μm, the alveolar epithelial cells height by 7,2 μm, and the lactiferous ducts diameter by 334,6 μm. Beluntas leaf juice can significantly increase the number of active alveoli, alveolar diameter, and alveolar lumen, as well as increase the diameter of the lactiferous duct and the height of alveolar epithelial cells, although not significantly between treatments. A 20% concentration of beluntas leaf juice stock showed the highest effect in increasing milk production in lactating white rats.
