Abstract

The increasing prevalence of speech delay among children in Indonesia has made this issue a crucial concern that requires early intervention. This study aims to investigate the implementation of a comprehensive intervention for a case of speech delay at the “Melody” Child Development Center, as well as the challenges encountered. The research employed a case study method with one child as the subject, who was experiencing speech delay. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation during the intervention process, supported by additional information from the therapist and parents. Data validity was ensured through triangulation. The findings indicate that the comprehensive intervention consisted of a combination of speech therapy and oromotor massage, designed to stimulate articulation skills, orofacial muscle strength, and overall communication abilities. The intervention was applied effectively through a play-based approach, such as integrating blowing exercises with fun activities like soap bubbles and small whistles. The main challenges identified were the child’s tendency to become easily bored and the lack of parental consistency in implementing the therapy program at home. These challenges were addressed by providing varied and engaging stimulation as well as enhancing parental involvement to ensure program continuity. In conclusion, the study highlights that comprehensive intervention through speech therapy and oromotor massage has the potential to support the speech development of children with speech delay. However, its success requires active parental involvement and consistent implementation both in therapy sessions and at home.
