Abstract
The transition from Early Childhood Education (ECE) to Elementary School is a crucial phase in Indonesia, marked by challenges in children's academic, social, and emotional readiness. This study aims to deeply analyze how the concept of the prepared environment at Firdaus Islamic Course (FIC), an institution integrating the Montessori approach with Islamic values, supports children's readiness during this transition. Using a qualitative case study method, data were collected through observation of the learning environment, in-depth interviews with the administrator, a tutor, and parents, as well as document analysis. The findings show that FIC implements an adaptive 'Montessori-inspired' hybrid model. The main characteristics of its environment include a functional physical structure to foster independence, freedom within structured limits to train executive functions, and the educator's role as a facilitator creating psychological safety. Key elements contributing to children's readiness are: (1) the Practical Life area as a foundation for concentration and responsibility, (2) the integration of Islamic values through adab (etiquette) and storytelling to build emotional and spiritual readiness, and (3) a bottom-up academic approach from concrete to abstract that builds conceptual understanding without pressure. The most significant impact of this implementation is a holistic improvement in children's readiness. In addition to academic progress, an extraordinary transformation was observed in independence, responsibility, and social skills. A crucial finding is the transfer of positive behaviors from the course environment to the home, such as taking the initiative to tidy up personal belongings and spontaneously demonstrating politeness. This study concludes that FIC's hybrid model effectively prepares children for the transition to elementary school by building a strong non-cognitive foundation. This model offers a relevant and replicable framework for ECE institutions in Indonesia to shape a generation that is not only academically prepared but also resilient, independent, and of strong character.
