Abstract

Disciplined character education in pesantren is important to shape the morals of students, but it is still constrained by violence, bullying, addiction to violence, and the negative influence of social media due to weak management and supervision of dormitories. The implementation of strategic management is needed to strengthen the discipline and quality of the institution. PM Asy-Syifa has carried out disciplined character education management, but it is not optimal because the SWOT analysis is not comprehensive. This study aims to examine the environmental conditions, formulation, implementation, and evaluation of discipline character education management using the Wheelen & Hunger strategic management model. This study uses a qualitative approach with explanatory case studies to examine the phenomenon of managing disciplined character education in PM. Ash-Shifa. Data were collected purposively by selecting relevant sources, through disguised participatory observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The validity of the data was tested by triangulating sources, techniques, and time, and then analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana models through condensation, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study found that: 1) The internal and external environmental conditions of PM. Asy-Syifa has advantages in the form of quality human resources, leadership, discipline system, intensive supervision, and a positive reputation. Weaknesses are in the form of unequal examples, lack of human resource development, limited infrastructure and information technology, too tight schedules, and no reward system for management. Opportunities come from the support of a positive culture of the community, government policies, advances in educational technology, economic stability, and the flexibility of the Independent Curriculum. Meanwhile, threats arise from the negative influence of violence, social media, and promiscuity. 2) The formulation in the management of disciplined character education is prepared in a participatory and directed manner through the determination of the vision, mission, goals, and policies of student development. 3) Implementation is carried out through a structured discipline program supported by good procedures and budget management. 4) Evaluation and supervision are carried out in a participatory and multi-layered manner to ensure the sustainability of improvements. This research strengthens the understanding of the application of strategic management in discipline character education and provides recommendations for policy improvement in PM. Asy-Syifa. This study has not presented numerical data on education customer satisfaction and the results have not been generalized to Islamic boarding schools with a different typology from modern boarding schools such as PM.
