Abstract

The practice of the Syattariyyah Tariqah was once exclusive and limited to specific Islamic boarding school and assemblies. However, its methods of da'wah (preach- ing) and spiritual guidance have become more open and responsive, utilizing social media and a more contextual approach toward the younger generation. This shift, while not altering the core spiritual teachings of the tariqah, reflects its adaptation to modern social dynamics. The tariqah makes a significant contribution to under- standing the role of Sufi orders in shaping the religious character of society, provid- ing knowledge of ethics and religious practices. This study aims to answer several research questions: When did the Syattariyyah Tariqah grow and develop in Benda Kerep? What are the amaliyyah (spiritual prac- tices) of the Syattariyyah Tariqah at the Benda Kerep Islamic Boarding School? What changes have occurred throughout the journey of the Syattariyyah Tariqah in Benda Kerep? The research objectives are to understand the development of the Syattariyyah Tariqah at the Benda Kerep Islamic Boarding School, to comprehend and analyze its spiritual practices, and to identify the forms of change that have taken place in these practices. This research employs a historical and sociological approach with a descriptive qualitative method. Data were gathered through a liter- ature review, observation, in-depth interviews with tariqah leaders and pesantren administrators, and the collection of documentation. The researcher conducted di- rect observation by participating in the tariqah's activities at the Benda Kerep Is- lamic Boarding School and interviewed several key figures who are both tariqah and pesantren leaders. The findings indicate that the Syattariyyah Tariqah at the Benda Kerep Islamic Boarding School has deep historical roots dating back to the early spread of Islam in Cirebon, influenced by respected tariqah figures with high scholarly and spiritual legitimacy. The amaliyyah includes dhikr (remembrance of God), wirid (litany), suluk (spiritual journey), and special study sessions aimed at purifying the heart and drawing closer to Allah. Over time, the Syattariyyah Tariqah has undergone several changes, both in the form of its practices and its da'wah strategy, which has become more adaptable to the dynamics of modern society. These changes reflect the tariqah's efforts to remain relevant without abandoning the core of its spiritual teachings.
