Abstract

The field of education is something that is very vital in the Sasak Muslim civilization to get out of backwardness. The figure who plays an important role in the development of Sasak Muslims through Islamic education and da'wah is TGKH. Muhammad Zainuddin Abdul Madjid. He used his leadership to advance Nahlatul Wathan. This research aims to describe the social, religious and educational background of the Sasak Muslim community at the beginning of the independence period, identifying the role of TGKH leadership. Muhammad Zainuddin Abdul Madjid in the NW organization, and analyzing the implications of TGKH leadership. Muhammad Zainuddin Abdul Madjid. This study is of a qualitative type using a socio-political approach. The theory used in the research is the integrative leadership theory formulated by Yulk, Gordon, and Taber which suggests that integrative leadership is an integration of leadership behavior towards tasks, relationships, and change and viewed from four roles and their dimensions. In addition, Max Weber's theory of authority is used. This research uses a historical method which consists of four stages, namely: (1) Heuristics; (2) Source criticism; (3) Interpretation; and (4) Historiography. The conclusion of this research shows that from their social, religious and educational background, the Sasak Muslim community is a community with a communal life. In the religious aspect there are variations, namely the Sasak Wetu Telu and Wetu Lima communities, while in the field of education before NW was founded it was still very simple. TGKH Leadership. Muhammad Zainuddin Abdul Madjid served for two terms, namely as chairman of PBNW and chairman of the Mustasyar Council. The compatibility of the four roles and dimensions contained in integrative leadership with Max Weber's theory of authority characterizes the integration of leadership. TGKH Leadership. Muhammad Zainuddin Abdul Madjid had significant implications for the Sasak Muslim community, by producing several important things, namely: modern Islamic education, the availability of comprehensive educational institutions, and the transformation of West Nusa Tenggara. His leadership resulted in Nahdlatul Wathan which has an established and advanced system.
