Abstract

Interpersonal communication is an important factor for a person who is essentially a social creature in forming relationships based on empathy and the formation of a healthy organization. The role of interpersonal communication is often a significa nt problem, judging from the number of members who have difficulty communica t ing effectively, causing problems of interpersonal communication with fellow members which affects a decrease in behavior that can cause a group to feel unappreciated and the quality of group decisions is not transparent. The researcher is interested in analyzing interpersonal communication that occurs between members in directing and maintaining the behavior of the Banyuanyar Santri Student Communication Forum (FKMSB) in the Yogyakarta region using interpersonal communication theory by DeVito and group behavior theory by Luthans. The research method uses a qualitative descriptive method. The subject of the study was an active member of the Banyuanyar Santri Student Communica t ion Forum who then migrated to Yogyakarta. Research data collection through observation, documentation, and interviews. The results of the study found that the role of interpersonal communication as a control of attitudes and behaviors of the Banyuanyar Santri Student Communication Forum (FKMSB) in the Yogyakarta Region can be seen from the role of openness, empathy, supportiveness, and equality, where members convey problems or obstacles honestly and on time, so that the coordination flow becomes more efficient and the risk of miscommunication and conflict can be minimized.
