Abstract

Indonesian fisheries resources have great potential for development, including the red tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) commodity, which shows an increasing trend in national production. One of the main obstacles in tilapia cultivation is the high cost of feed, so alternative feed raw materials are needed that are economical and remain nutritious. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of substitution of banana peel waste flour (Musa balbisiana colla) and chicken feather meal silage in feed on absolute weight growth, relative growth rate (RGR), feed utilization efficiency (EPP), and water quality during the cultivation of red tilapia. The study used a completely randomized design with four treatments and three replications: control (100% commercial pellets ff-999), treatment 1 (20% banana peel, 60% chicken feather silage), treatment 2 (40% banana peel, 40% chicken feather silage), and treatment 3 (60% banana peel, 20% chicken feather silage), each replicate contained five fish. Growth data analysis used ANOVA with Duncan's advanced test, while water quality was analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the highest absolute weight growth, RGR, and EPP were obtained in treatment 1 followed by treatment 2, and the lowest in treatment 3. Water quality conditions during the study were in the range of temperature 25–28.1°C, pH 5.36–6.99, and DO 3–5 mg/L. This study concluded that the feed formulation of substitution of kepok banana peel flour and chicken feather meal silage in the feed had a significant effect on the growth of red tilapia. The substitution formulation of 20% kepok banana peel flour, 60% chicken feather flour silage, 10% FF-999 commercial pellets, and 10% tapioca flour gave the same best effect as the control.Water quality temperature, pH, and DO were in the range that was still suitable for the maintenance of red tilapia.
