Abstract
The background of this study departs from the phenomenon of adolescents who tend to follow peer group pressures, while at the same time they are in a developmental phase that demands the formation of a stable self-identity and confidence. This study aims to determine the relationship between peer conformity and self-confidence in students of SMK Negeri 1 Klaten. The mismatch between peer conformity and self-confidence often raises interesting psychological dynamics to investigate, especially in the school setting. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The number of respondents was 32 students who were selected using isidental sampling techniques. The research instrument consists of a peer-to-peer conformity scale and a confidence scale that has been tested for validity and reliability. The data was analyzed using the Pearson correlation technique to find out the relationship between the two variables. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between peer conformity and confidence in grade XI students, which was indicated by a significance value that was above the error level of 0.05. These findings show that there is no significant relationship between peer conformity and the confidence of SMK Negeri 1 Klaten students and indicate that the level of students' tendency to follow peer groups does not directly affect their high and low confidence. Thus, it can be concluded that conformity behavior is not a determining factor for confidence in the respondents of this study. These findings provide an idea that other factors, such as family support, personal experiences, and body image, may play a role in shaping adolescents' self-confidence.
