Abstract

Public trust is a strategic factor that determines the success of zakat institutions in managing zakat, infaq, and sadaqah (ZIS) funds, particularly in the digital era that demands transparency, accountability, and openness of information. As a national zakat institution, Baitul Maal Muamalat (BMM) Yogyakarta is required to establish effective organizational communication patterns to enhance and sustain public trust. This study aims to analyze communication patterns in the management of ZIS funds at BMM Yogyakarta, examine the level of clique connectivity within the openness of stakeholder communication networks, and identify specific communication roles formed within the network in strengthening public trust. This research employs a quantitative approach using sociometric methods. The research subjects consist of 30 respondents, including 5 internal BMM Yogyakarta staff members and 25 partners and donors. Data were collected through sociometric questionnaires to map communication choices, reciprocal relationships, and interaction intensity among actors. The data were analyzed using communication network analysis techniques and visualized through sociograms to identify network structures, information flows, clique connectivity, and actor positions and roles within the network. The results indicate that the communication pattern of BMM Yogyakarta forms a relatively centralized yet open communication network with a fairly strong level of clique connectivity among stakeholders. Furthermore, sociometric analysis reveals the presence of specific communication roles such as opinion leaders, gatekeepers, bridges, and liaisons that play strategic functions in managing information flows, strengthening coordination among actors, and linking institutional interests with public expectations. These findings demonstrate that the effectiveness of network-based communication patterns supported by sociometric roles positively influences perceptions of transparency, accountability, and organizational credibility.
