Abstract

Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense is the causal agent of Fusarium wilt in banana plants, a disease that is difficult to control and has led to a global decline in banana production. An environmentally friendly alternative for disease management is the use of biocontrol agents, such as antagonistic bacteria derived from frog skin, which are known to produce antifungal compounds. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of bacteria isolated from the skin of the frog species R. catamitus to control Fusarium sp. growth in vitro. Four bacterial isolates obtained from the ventral skin were subjected to screening using the dual culture method. The results showed that two bacterial isolates, RcV2 and RcV4, exhibited the highest inhibitory activity against Fusarium sp., with inhibition percentages of 21.43% and 23.32%, respectively. The highest mycelium inhibition results were observed in RcV2 and RcV4 at a density of 1x108 CFU/mL with a lower average radial diameter than the control, namely 31.4 mm and 31.5 mm. In the inhibition of conidia germination by isolate RcV4 at a density of 1x10⁸ CFU/mL, the lowest percentage of FOC germination was observed, at 7%.
