Abstract

Corruption remains one of the major problems that hinders national progress and obstructs social, political, and economic development. This study aims to examine the dynamics of corruption spread through a mathematical modeling approach by dividing the population into five compartments, namely SECJH (Susceptible–Exposed–Corrupt–Jail–Honest). The model has two equilibrium points, namely the corruption-free equilibrium point and the corruption-endemic equilibrium point. The stability analysis of the equilibrium points is determined using the Routh–Hurwitz criteria through determinants and eigenvalues, while the optimal control analysis is conducted using Pontryagin’s Maximum Principle. Based on the results of numerical simulations, it is shown that the role of the Corruption Eradication Commission in combating corruption through strategies such as education and campaigns, system improvement, and repressive actions can provide effective outcomes.
