Abstract

The large number of human trafficking cases that have occurred in the last decade shows that the handling of human trafficking crimes has not been optimal. In addition to the government's efforts to resolve these cases, this phenomenon has also prompted the Qur'an to respond, considering that the Qur'an is a guide for humans in dealing with humanitarian issues. Studies on the story of Joseph regarding human trafficking have so far tended to ignore the maqasid aspect contained in the story. This study attempts to present the story of Joseph's human trafficking comprehensively through the lens of maqasidi interpretation as an effort to read the story thoroughly and also to overcome current problems. Based on this, the author proposes two questions: first, how does Maqasidi interpretation interpret the story of human trafficking in Surah Yusuf; and second, what is the implementation of Maqasidi interpretation of human trafficking in Surah Yusuf to minimize TPPO in the current context. This study uses a qualitative method in the form of library research. The primary data source is Surah Yusuf verses 8-21 of the Qur'an, while the secondary sources are classical and contemporary tafsir books, including books, journals, and scientific works relevant to the themes of human trafficking and maqāṣid alsyarī‘ ah. To explore the meaning of the story of Yusuf's trade comprehensively, this study uses the maqāṣidī tafsir approach developed by Abdul Mustaqim. The results of this study are as follows: first, the story of Prophet Yusuf a.s. in the Qur'an represents the practice of human trafficking through acts of exile and human trade that are contrary to the humanitarian values upheld by the Qur'an. Second, maqāṣidī interpretation shows that human trafficking is contrary to the fundamental values of maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah, namely ḥifẓ al-nafs (protection of life) to uphold human dignity, ḥifẓ nasl (protection of the family) to protect families from conflict, and hifd Aql (protection of reason) to protect the mind from inhumane acts. Third, the maqasidi interpretation of human trafficking in the story of Prophet Yusuf a.s. can be used as a lesson or even a solution in efforts to prevent TPPO, starting from oneself, namely that every individual has the right to reject all forms of exploitation, be patient in facing trials (not easily jealous), be honest, and increase their intellectuality. In addition, the government also has a role in preventing human trafficking, namely strengthening social security networks, enabling bureaucratic reform and strict law enforcement, diplomatic protection of citizens at the international level, and conducting digital literacy education regarding the crime of human trafficking.
