Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of the 2025 US-China tariff policy announcements on the US technology stock market reaction. Using the event study method, this research focuses on the seven largest technology companies with the highest market cap (The Magnificent Seven) listed on the Nasdaq Composite, with an 11-day observation window around three announcement dates: March 3, April 9, and May 12, 2025. The results indicate no significant abnormal returns for the March 3 and April 9 events, suggesting that the information was priced-in by the market. However, the May 12 event showed a significant delayed market response on the third day after the announcement (t+3). Overall, this study concludes that the US technology stock market exhibits semi-strong form efficiency, where investors tend to be rational and focus on company fundamentals rather than momentary sentiments.
