Abstract

This research is motivated by the increasing number of household problems that may lead to conflict and divorce, indicating the importance of preparing prospective brides and grooms before entering married life. This study aims to identify and describe the premarital guidance methods applied to support the realization of harmonious families for prospective couples at the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) of Kemantren Kotagede. This research employed a field research design using a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through non-participant observation and structured interviews with the head of KUA, Islamic religious counselors, and prospective brides and grooms. Data analysis was conducted using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with data validity ensured through source and technique triangulation. The research findings indicate that the premarital guidance methods implemented consist of lectures and question-and-answer sessions. The lecture method serves as the primary means of delivering fundamental materials on marriage, the rights and obligations of husband and wife, as well as the principles of building a harmonious family. The lectures are not only informative but also persuasive, employing the mauidzah hasanah approach manifested through advice, guidance, storytelling, tabsyir (glad tidings), and motivational messages. The question-and-answer method is used to create interactive space between the counselor and the prospective bride and groom, enabling the guidance process to take place in a dialogical and participatory manner. The implementation of these two methods assists prospective couples in understanding marriage as an act of worship and a trust (amanah) in establishing a harmonious family.
