Abstract

This study aims to examine the process of implementing the ta’zir system and its effectiveness in improving students’ discipline at Darul Qur’an wal Irsyad Islamic Boarding School. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, focus group discussions (FGD), and documentation. The data were then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive analysis model, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The informants in this study included mentors, student affairs staff, and guidance and counseling teachers as the main informants, while students served as supporting informants. The findings indicate that the implementation of ta’zir is carried out through a structured mechanism involving mentors, administrators, student affairs staff, and guidance and counseling teachers. The ta’zir given is not merely punitive, but also educational in nature, aiming to help students realize their mistakes, develop responsibility, and build disciplined character. The application of ta’zir has proven effective in enhancing students’ discipline, both in the short term through behavioral control and in the long term through the internalization of disciplinary values and the habituation of positive behavior.
