Abstract
This study aims to synthesize and characterize TiO2//nanocellulose nanocomposite from snake fruit stem as a photocatalyst, and determine its optimum conditions for degrading methylene blue. The nanocomposite was synthesized by sol-gel method and characterized using FTIR, XRD, and DR-UV. FTIR results confirmed the OH functional groups of cellulose with lignin/hemicellulose residues. XRD showed the presence of an active TiO2/Anatase crystal phase with an average of 2.5 nm (Scherrer Equation). However, DR-UV results showed a high band gap energy of 4.6 eV which limits its effectiveness only to UV-C light. The photodegradation activity test of methylene blue under UV light showed that the reaction follows the 1st Order Reaction Kinetics model (R2=0.8547). The Activation Energy (Ea) of the reaction was calculated as 19.5 kJ/mol (Arrhenius Equation). Optimization was performed using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) with a Box-Behnken design. The results were obtained at a temperature of 45°C, a time of 53 minutes, and a catalyst mass of 0.01 grams
