Abstract
The rapid development of digital technology has transformed philanthropic practices, particularly through donation-based crowdfunding platforms that are increasingly adopted by younger generations. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing Behavioral Intention and online donation behavior among Generation Z in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. A quantitative approach was employed using a survey of 247 Generation Z respondents, and the data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The research model integrates UTAUT2 constructs (Performance Expectancy, Effort Expectancy, Social Influence, Facilitating Condition, and Habit) along with additional variables, namely Trust, Perceived Risk, and Empathy–Altruism. The results indicate that Effort Expectancy, Social Influence, Habit, and Trust have a positive and significant effect on online donation intention, while Performance Expectancy, Facilitating Condition, and Perceived Risk show a negative effect. Furthermore, Behavioral Intention has a positive and significant influence on actual online donation behavior and serves as a mediating variable between the antecedent factors and donation behavior. The findings also reveal that Empathy–Altruism acts as a moderating variable, strengthening the relationship between intention and actual donation behavior. This study contributes to the literature on technology adoption in digital philanthropy and provides practical insights for crowdfunding platforms and charitable organizations in enhancing Generation Z’s participation in online donations.
