Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of meaning in life for incarcerated drug offenders who experience various psychological pressures during imprisonment. Religiosity is considered an internal factor that may help individuals construct and maintain life meaning. This research aims to examine the effect of religiosity on the meaning in life of inmates convicted of drug abuse at the Class IIA Narcotics Correctional Facility in Yogyakarta. A quantitative correlational approach was employed involving 197 inmates aged 20–30 years. The instruments used were the Brief RCOPE scale to measure religiosity (positive religious coping) and the Meaning in Life Questionnaire (MLQ) to assess meaning in life. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression with SPSS. The results indicate that religiosity has a positive and significant effect on meaning in life (t = 10.017; p < 0.001). The correlation coefficient (R) of 0.583 reflects a moderate positive relationship, while the R Square value of 0.340 shows that religiosity contributes 34% to the variance in meaning in life. Therefore, higher levels of religiosity are associated with higher levels of life meaning among inmates.
