Abstract

Juvenile delinquency is one of the problems that arise due to weak moral and spiritual guidance in educational environments. Ineffective implementation of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) can lead to deviant behavior among students. Schools, as formal educational institutions, play a strategic role in shaping students' noble character through the reinforcement of religious values. This study was conducted at SMPN 17 Merangin Jambi, which is known for its distinctive approach in developing a religious culture believed to reduce juvenile delinquency and foster religious character. This study employed a qualitative approach aimed at describing the research subject in depth. Data collection techniques included interviews, observation, and documentation. The sources of data consisted of the principal, Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers, the vice principal of curriculum, and students from grades VIII and IX. The validity of the data was ensured through triangulation of techniques and sources. Data analysis followed Creswell's procedures, including data collection, transcription, coding, analysis, and interpretation. The results of this study show that the formation of a religious culture among students at SMPN 17 Merangin Jambi is influenced by three factors. First, religious activities such as congregational Duha prayers, recitation of Asmaul Husna, spiritual literacy or short sermons, recitation of Yasin and Tahlil, memorization of Juz 30, BTQ and SBQ programs, and support for orphans. Second, the strategies used by PAI teachers in shaping students' character through religious culture include being role models and instilling habitual practices both inside and outside the classroom. Third, the implementation of this religious culture has resulted in increased religious awareness, positive behavioral changes, and the development of religious character among students.
