Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has positioned Generation Z as one of the most active groups in social media usage. However, high digital connectivity does not always correlate with an increase in meaningful social connection and can even be associated with the emergence of loneliness. This study aims to determine the role of selfcompassion in predicting loneliness among Generation Z social media users. This research employed a quantitative approach involving 250 Generation Z participants selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used were the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) and the UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression with Jamovi software. The results showed that self-compassion significantly predicts (R²= 0.314, p < 0.001, B = -0.468, t = -10.7). These findings indicate that self-compassion contributes 31.4% to the variation in loneliness, with a negative direction of relationship. This implies that higher levels of self-compassion are associated with lower levels of loneliness. This study concludes that self-compassion is a crucial internal psychological resource for understanding loneliness among Generation Z social media users. Practically, these findings imply the importance of developing selfcompassionate attitudes as a strategy to support the psychological well-being of the digital generation.
