Abstract

Adolescence is a critical period in human development, as individuals begin to form their identity, independence, and more mature social abilities. During this stage, adolescents are expected to develop clear plans and interests regarding their future, such as education, marriage, and career. However, not all adolescents grow up in harmonious family conditions. One such condition is fatherless, which is considered an important factor influencing future orientation. This study aims to examine the relationship between fatherless and future orientation among adolescents in Wonosobo, with gender as a moderating variable. This research employed a quantitative correlational approach. The instruments used were the Father Presence Questionnaire (FPQ) and the Future Orientation Scale. The sample consisted of 277 adolescents aged 13–18 years residing in Wonosobo. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling. Data were analyzed using linear regression and Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) with the assistance of Jamovi software version 2.3 for Windows. The results showed that the major hypothesis was supported, indicating that gender moderates the relationship between fatherless and future orientation (p = 0.037, p < 0.05). In addition, the first and second minor hypotheses were also supported, revealing a significant negative relationship between fatherless and future orientation (p = 0.001, p < 0.05), with an estimate value of -0.21539 and a t-value of -3.6962. Furthermore, the strength of the negative relationship between fatherless future orientation differs by gender. Among male adolescents, the relationship is negative and significant (β = -0.339, p < 0.001), whereas among female adolescents, the relationship remains negative but is not statistically significant (β = -0.095)
