Abstract
The learning resources used in biology education tend to be monotonous, particularly when covering fern (Pterydophyta) material; therefore, there is a need to develop more varied learning resources, one of which is a visual learning resource in the form of a booklet based on local potential. This study is a type of Research and Development (R&D) study aimed at identifying the diversity of ferns and assessing the development and feasibility of the Fern Diversity (Pterydophyta) Booklet at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University in Yogyakarta as a Learning Resource. The booklet aims to support learning outcomes in the core subject of biodiversity for 10th-grade high school Biology (Phase E) students, specifically by analyzing and presenting the results of observations on biodiversity in their local area, particularly fern species (Pterydophyta). The study on fern diversity conducted on the UIN Sunan Kalijaga campus used an exploratory method combined with a purposive sampling approach and a 10 m x 10 m plotting technique. The results of the fern (Pterydophyta) diversity study yielded a total of 2 classes, 7 families, 15 genera, and 20 species. Analysis of the Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H’) indicates a moderate level of diversity, specifically 2.586, which is influenced by environmental conditions such as air temperature, humidity, light intensity, soil pH, and soil moisture. The research findings were then developed into a booklet using the 4D model (Define, Design, Development, and Disseminate), limited to the Development stage. The instruments used were an interview guide and an evaluation questionnaire, which included 1 subject matter expert, 1 media expert, 1 biology teacher, 5 peer reviewers, and 15 responses from students in class XE at Banguntapan State High School 2. The evaluation results for the booklet were as follows: 84% from the subject matter expert, 97.3% from the media expert, 90.4% from the 10th-grade biology teacher, 95% from the peer reviewers, and 95.3% from the students. Overall, the booklet received a final score of 92.4%, earning the category of “highly suitable” for use as a supplementary learning resource for 10th-grade biology, particularly regarding the core subject matter of biodiversity.
