Abstract
This research is motivated by the need for Islamic boarding school students (santri) to develop life skills that are not solely based on mastery of religious knowledge, but also on readiness to face the dynamics of community life. In the context of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), the development of these skills is inseparable from the leadership role of the caregivers as a policy maker as well as a leader in the implementation of pesantren programs Therefore, the leadership of Ibu Nyai Hj. Khusnul Khotimah Warson at the Al-Munawwir Islamic Boarding School, Complex Q, is analyzed to identify leadership practices and their impact on strengthening the students' life skills. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study. Subjects were selected through purposive sampling, with six informants: the advisory board, the daily administrators, santri, and three alumni with direct experience in the dynamics of the caregivers' leadership. Data collection techniques were conducted through in-depth interviews, passive participant observation, and documentation. Data analysis employed the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, with validity tested through source and technique triangulation. The results indicate that the leadership of Ibu Nyai Hj. Khusnul Khotimah Warson's efforts to strengthen students' life skills are implemented through various strategies and policies. This was manifested in four aspects: the strengthening of personal skills through spiritual guidance and interpersonal approaches to problem-solving; the enhancement of academic skills through the formulation of policies based on student participation; the development of social skills through the expansion of external collaboration and the empowerment of alumni roles; and the reinforcement of vocational skills through the management of entrepreneurship programs and the cultivation of students’ creativity. The impact of this leadership in strengthening the life skills of students in Komplek Q was identified in four major outcomes, namely fostering students’ self-awareness and independence, sharpening their critical thinking abilities, developing their social interaction competencies, and building applicable technical skills The findings of this research can be employed as a reference framework for other Islamic boarding schools in revitalizing and institutionalizing female Islamic scholar leadership as a strategy to empower students' competency development and strengthen life skills responsive to the evolving demands of modernization.
