Abstract

This study aims to analyze the political strategy and social performance of the Gerindra Party in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, and to examine the relationship between the two in more depth. This research is motivated by local political conditions characterized by the dominance of certain parties, the imbalance of political power and authority between the central and regional Gerindra parties, and the challenges faced by a relatively new party in building a support base and social legitimacy. The theoretical framework used in this study is Maurice Duverger's theory of political strategy, which encompasses several main dimensions: electoral, organizational, ideological, and mass base. This study uses qualitative research methods. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis process was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and verification to draw conclusions. The main objective of this study is to examine the political strategy and social performance of the Gerindra Party in Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. The results show that the political strategy of the Gerindra Party in Bantul Regency has encompassed all dimensions in Maurice Duverger's theory, however, its implementation has not been fully optimal. In the electoral and mass base dimensions, the party has made efforts through campaigns, the use of social media, and social activities. In terms of ideology, the party positions itself and defines itself as an inclusive, centrist party without any particular affiliation. However, in terms of organizational aspects, limitations in regional autonomy remain due to the strong centralization of central government policies, hampering the development of contextual strategies. In terms of social performance, it is considered good and diverse, encompassing programs in education, health, empowerment, the economy, and socio-religious affairs. These programs contribute to improving the welfare and quality of life of the community and strengthening the party's support base. However, there remains some public criticism regarding the effectiveness and priorities of these programs, indicating the need to improve responsiveness and public communication. This study also found that the relationship between political strategy and social performance is mutually supportive, but not yet fully synchronized. This imbalance arises from the weak synergy between strategic planning, program implementation, and responses to social dynamics. This study concludes that the success of a political strategy is not solely determined by the completeness of the strategic dimensions, but also by the party's ability to integrate its organizational structure, program implementation, and responsiveness to the community in a sustainable and consistent manner.
