Abstract

The development of digital technology has massively transformed information consumption patterns. TikTok, with its infinite scrolling feature and personalized algorithm, has become a platform highly vulnerable to triggering doomscrolling behavior the habit of continuously consuming negative content. This study aims to describe the forms of doomscrolling behavior exhibited by university students and to analyze its impact on their daily mental well-being. This study utilizes a qualitative approach with a phenomenological study design. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews with seven informants, observation, and documentation. Source and technique triangulation were employed to ensure data validity. This study concludes that the experience of doomscrolling on TikTok is perceived by students as an activity that affects their mental well-being, characterized by the emergence of anxiety, excessive worry, and a decreased ability to focus on daily activities.
