Abstract

Unemployment is a labor market issue that can impact the well-being of a country’s population. The open unemployment rate in Indonesia has increased sharply due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to analyze the effects of Domestic Direct Investment (DDI) and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Inflation, and Mean Years of Schooling (MYS) on the unemployment rate in Indonesia. The study sample consists of 34 provinces in Indonesia, with data sourced from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industries for the period 2015–2024. This study employs a quantitative approach, using panel data regression analysis with the Fixed Effects Model. The results indicate that all independent variables simultaneously have a significant impact on the unemployment rate in Indonesia. Partially, the variables of Domestic Direct Investment (DDI), Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Inflation, and RLS have a negative and significant effect on the unemployment rate. These findings confirm that the unemployment rate in Indonesia can decrease when the government maintains a foreign and domestic investment climate, ensures economic stability through controlling inflation, and increases the MYS rate.
