Abstract
Optimism in the face of poverty is a complex issue rooted in social, economic and cultural conditions. Not a few of the people are immersed in complaints and pessimistic about the future. In fact, the consequences of both tend to be fatal, such as the act of ending life. Poetry can serve as an effective medium to educate optimism, such as the poem “Kam Tasytakī” by Īliyā Abū Māḍī which specifically expresses optimism in the face of poverty. Based on this, This research aims to reveal the linguistic elements of the poem “Kam Tasytakī” that express optimism in poverty as well as the relationship between the expressive language and the poet himself in order to become a valuable lesson for the world community and Indonesian society in particular. This research uses the Expressive approach, an approach that places the poet as the center of attention in understanding the poetic work. In analyzing the rhyme, the method used is Schleiermacher's Hermeneutic method which consists of grammatical interpretation and psychological interpretation. The research results show: First, the choice of words that describe smiles, hope, and the beauty of nature is evidence that the poem “Kam Tasytakī” forms an optimistic mental attitude. Second, the style of language that is full of rejection of complaints, invitations to be grateful, and depictions of the beauty of life in the midst of poverty reflect the poet's optimistic, reflective, spiritualist, and humanistic worldview formed from his personal experiences as an Orthodox Christian, immigrant, journalist, and diaspora poet.
