Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach based on ethnomathematics on creative thinking skills in number patterns. This is a quantitative study using an experimental method. The research design used in this study is a Quasi-Experimental design with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population in this study consists of all eighth-grade students at Muhammadiyah Kasihan Junior High School for the 2025/2026 academic year. The sampling technique used is cluster random sampling, resulting in the selection of an experimental class and a control class. The sample for this study consists of Class VIII B as the experimental class and Class VIII C as the control class. The independent variable in this study is the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach based on ethnomathematics, and the dependent variable is creative thinking ability regarding number patterns. The data collection instruments used were pre-test and post-test questions assessing creative thinking ability. The data analysis techniques used in this study were the Mann-Whitney test and the effect size test to determine the level of effectiveness. The data analysis process was conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics 26 software. The results of this study indicate that the ethnomathematics-based Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach is effective in enhancing creative thinking skills regarding number patterns among eighth-grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah Kasihan. This conclusion is based on the results of the hypothesis test using the Mann-Whitney posttest, which yielded an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.021, resulting in a value of
