Abstract

Quran memorization is a flagship program at the Islamic boarding school aimed at preserving the authenticity of the Quran as the holy book of Islam. To achieve their memorization goals, the female students need motivation to memorize the Quran, whether it comes from within or from external sources, one of which is social support from their peers. This study aims to test and analyze the relationship between peer so-cial support and motivation to memorize the Quran, as well as to describe the manage-ment of counseling guidance at the Nurul Qur'an Putri Batam Islamic Boarding School. This study employs a mixed-methods approach with a Sequential Explanatory Design. The sample consisted of 111 female students selected using simple random sampling. Quantitative data utilized the peer social support scale and the Quran memorization motivation scale. Qualitative data were collected through interviews. Quantitative data analysis involved descriptive statistics, normality tests, linearity tests, and hypothesis testing using Pearson’s product-moment correlation. Qualitative data analysis involved data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that there is a positive and significant relationship between peer social support and the motivation to memorize the Quran among female students at the Nurul Qur’an Putri Islamic Boarding School in Batam. The correlation coefficient was 0.427, indi-cating a moderate relationship, with a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05). These quantitative data are supported by the results of qualitative data analysis, which indicate that guidance and counseling management is not yet optimal and still relies on non-counseling staff. Peer relationships can be a factor in both increasing and decreasing the female students’ enthusiasm for memorizing the Quran, and there are other factors that influence motivation to memorize the Quran, such as physical condition, environ-ment, and family support. This affects the level of stability of peer social support, mak-ing it inconsistent, so that these relationships have not yet reached their full potential.
