Abstract

This research stems from the problem of students' low understanding of the human digestive system concept and their lack of self-confidence in the learning process. Based on these conditions, the researcher conducted a study to examine the effectiveness of implementing the Problem-Based Learning model combined with torso media and YouTube videos in improving mastery of the digestive system concept while strengthening students' self-confidence. The objectives of this study are: (1) To determine the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning model assisted by torso media and YouTube videos in improving fifth-grade students' understanding of the human digestive system concept in Muhammadiyah Pajangan Elementary School. (2) To determine the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning model, supported by torso media and YouTube videos, on students' self-confidence in science learning on the human digestive system in fifth-grade students at Muhammadiyah Pajangan 2 Elementary School. This study was a quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group design. The study population was fifth-grade students at Muhammadiyah Pajangan 2 Elementary School. The study sample consisted of class V A as the control class and class V B as the experimental class, selected using purposive sampling. Data collection techniques used a science concept understanding test on the human digestive system, a self-confidence questionnaire, and field notes. Data analysis was conducted using normality tests, homogeneity tests, independent sample t-tests, and N-Gain tests. The t-test showed significant differences between the experimental and control classes in terms of understanding the digestive system concept and self-confidence. The N-Gain value for understanding the digestive system concept was 40.6 (moderate category) and self-confidence was 57.66 (moderate category), indicating the effectiveness of the learning model. The conclusion of this study is that the Problem Based Learning model assisted by torso media and YouTube videos is effective in the moderate category to improve students' understanding of the concept of the digestive system and self-confidence in the material on the human digestive system in elementary schools.
