Abstract

This study examines the effect of financial literacy, financial attitude, and financial behavior on financial management among university students, and compares financial management between students at State Universities (PTN) and Private Universities (PTS) across Java. Using a comparative-associative quantitative approach grounded in the Theory of Planned Behavior, the study drew a simple random sample of 171 active students (68 from PTN, 103 from PTS) sized according to Hair et al. (2010), who completed a four-point Likert questionnaire via Google Form. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression and an Independent Samples t-Test in SPSS 25. Financial literacy (t = 5.640), financial attitude (t = 6.510), and financial behavior (t = 8.102) each showed a positive, significant effect on financial management (sig = 0.000), with financial behavior as the strongest predictor. The three variables jointly explained 55.3% of the variance in financial management (F = 68.897; R² = 0.553; sig = 0.000). An independent samples t-test also found a significant difference between PTN and PTS students (sig = 0.038), with PTS students scoring higher on average (23.32) than PTN students (22.40), though the underlying causes of this gap fall outside the scope of the study.
