Abstract

Character education has an important role in fostering self-identity in order to prevent deviant behavior. This is inseparable from the importance of positive habits, one of which is through the recitation of Asmaul Husna. Ali Maksum Krapyak Islamic Boarding School, Yogyakarta, makes Asmaul Husna Krapyak a characteristic that is carried out routinely before studying, praying in congregation, or other activities. Through this habit, students experience the development of selfregulation starting from observing their behavior (self-observation), assessing actions (selfjudgment), to correcting themselves (self-reaction). This study aims to describe the picture of the habit of reading Asmaul Husna Krapyak on the development of self-regulation in the formation of students' characters carried out in the Islamic boarding school environment. So that it is known what characters are formed through the development of self-regulation in the habit of reading Asmaul Husna Krapyak. This study uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive phenomenological approach. The subjects of this study were 4 active female students of Ali Maksum High School who implement the habit regularly. The results of this study indicate that all subjects demonstrated that regular recitation of the Quran acts as a means of inner peace and internalization of spiritual values, which stimulates the development of self-regulation in students. This practiced self-regulation ultimately shapes positive character traits in students, including religiosity, honesty, responsibility, self-confidence, and good manners. This recitation is scheduled at least three times daily in the dormitory and at school.
