Abstract

Correctional inmates convicted of narcotics offenses experience various psychological pressures resulting from the incarceration process, restrictions on personal freedom, and the demands of recovering from drug dependence, all of which may affect their level of resilience. This study aimed to examine the relationship between hardiness, social support, and resilience among correctional inmates convicted of narcotics offenses in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational research design. The theoretical framework was based on the hardiness theory proposed by Maddi (2002), the social support theory developed by Zimet et al. (1988), and the resilience theory introduced by Connor and Davidson (2003). The participants consisted of 146 correctional inmates selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using the Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), the Dispositional Resilience Scale-15 (DRS-15), and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with Jamovi version 2.3.28 for Windows. The results indicated that hardiness and social support simultaneously had a positive and significant relationship with resilience. Partially, hardiness and social support also showed positive and significant relationships with resilience. Therefore, higher levels of hardiness and social support were associated with higher levels of resilience among correctional inmates convicted of narcotics offenses.
