Abstract

This study examines group conformity among members of the Brigata Curva Sud supporters’ group, which supports PSS Sleman. A strong group culture requires new members to adjust their behavior in order to gain social acceptance; therefore, this study aims to analyze the dynamics of the communication structure as well as the factors that drive such conformity. The study employed a qualitative method, collecting data through interviews, observations, and documentation of five new members as well as the Executive Chairman as a triangulation source. The findings indicate that group communication occurs primarily through one-way directives from leaders in the stadium stands, and secondarily through face-to-face discussions at the secretariat. The process of self-adjustment is driven by five psychosocial factors: the desire to be liked, fear of rejection, the desire to feel right, a shift in mindset, and concern about criticism. Supporter compliance includes rules such as wearing black clothing, the requirement to wear specific footwear, a ban on cell phone use, and the use of secondary social media accounts. The discussion concludes that this adaptation arises voluntarily from an inner awareness to maintain unity, while also reflecting the values of brotherhood and the principle of verifying information.
