Abstract

This research is based on the phenomenon of a gap in the ability to read Al- Qur'an in MTs with the problem of low basic competence in reading Al-Qur'an of students in public and private institutions. Initial data showed significant concrete problems in both madrasahs, it was found that 60% of students were not fluent in reading Al-Qur'an in MTs Negeri 3 Sleman, and 20% of students were fluent in reading Al-Qur'an in MTs Yapi Pakem. The research gap in this study is the limitation of previous studies in which the majority of research only evaluates a single method. Methodologically, previous research is limited to a separate qualitative or quantitative approach. The novelty of this research is a comparative analysis between institutions (state vs private) to analyze the differences in program management models, as well as the use of the mixed method with quantitative statistical data as the main data on the effectiveness of the program, and qualitative data to explain the factors that are the basis for the success or failure of the program. This research aims to analyze in depth the effectiveness, implementation process, and comparison of Tadarus and BTAQ programs in improving the ability to read Al-Qur'an of students at MTs Negeri 3 Sleman and MTs Yapi Pakem. Through the sequential explanatory mixed method approach, this study measured the success level of the program quantitatively based on the achievement data of the August-October period, and clarified qualitatively through the results of interviews, observations, and cognitive questionnaires to identify the causative factors that affect the effectiveness of the program in the madrasah. The research results revealed: (1) The implementation of the BTAQ program at MTs Negeri 3 Sleman is optional, while MTs Yapi Pakem is mandatory. (2) Both programs are proven to be effective in increasing students' ability significantly in MTs Negeri 3 Sleman which shows a difference in achievement after participating in the program, the sharpest increase in achievement occurred in August to October with a Z score of -4,231b. Student's achies at Yapi Pakem MTs have improved by showing that every month students always go to the next page or volume. (3) The difference in program implementation lies in the assessment system (monthly vs semester). In terms of the effectiveness of the program, it is seen from the results of statistical tests in both madrasahs which show that there is a significant improvement in the cognitive achievement of students with Asymp scores.
