Abstract

This research was motivated by issues related to the school readiness of children aged 4–5 years in kindergarten education. These issues were reflected in children's difficulties in following learning routines, low levels of independence, suboptimal communication skills, and limited focus and concentration during school activities. This study aimed to describe the condition of children's school readiness and identify the factors influencing it. This study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive case study design. The research subjects consisted of 15 children from Group A1 at TK ABA Karanganyar Yogyakarta. The informants included classroom teachers, the principal, and parents. Data were collected through observations, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The data were then analyzed using the stages of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that: (1) the school readiness of children aged 4–5 years in kindergarten education generally demonstrated positive development. However, several aspects still required further stimulation, including fine motor coordination, concentration, learning motivation, and language comprehension and instructionfollowing skills; (2) supporting factors for school readiness included parental support, early social experiences, a conducive school environment, the role of teachers, and collaboration between teachers and parents; and (3) inhibiting factors included children's developmental immaturity, overindulgent parenting styles, excessive gadget use, and the limited number of teachers at the school.
