Abstract

Students' low emotional management skills can affect the development of self-confidence, thus impacting the learning process and social interactions in the school environment. This study aims to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and self-confidence in fifth-grade students at MIM Kranggan. The results are expected to provide theoretical benefits as additional references regarding the relationship between emotional intelligence and self-confidence, and practical input for educators, schools, and students in their efforts to develop emotional intelligence and increase self-confidence. The research method used in this study is a quantitative approach with a correlational research method. The population in this study was all 62 fifth-grade students at MIM Kranggan. The sampling technique used in this study was Exhaustive Sampling (Seinsus Sampling). Exhaustive sampling is a technique for determining the sample size when all members of a population are used as samples. Classes VA, VB, and VC were obtained. Data collection was conducted through a questionnaire previously validated by several experts and documented. The collected data were analyzed using immersion analysis with normality and linearity tests. Because the data were normally and linearly distributed, the Spearman's rho correlation test was used with SPSS version 25 because one of the research variables was not normally distributed. The results showed a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and self-confidence in fifth-grade students at MIM Kranggan. This is evidenced by a significance value (Sig. 2-tiled) of 0.011 (<0.05), thus the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. The correlation coefficient of 0.529 indicates a moderate and positive relationship between the two variables. Therefore, it can be concluded that the higher a student's emotional intelligence, the higher their self-confidence. Conversely, the lower their emotional intelligence, the lower their self-confidence.
